What this site is, where the data comes from, and how to request a correction or removal.

What is VILiens?

VILiens is a free, interactive map of real property tax delinquencies across St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is a research tool for property owners, real estate professionals, investors, journalists, and residents who want to understand property tax delinquency in the territory — information that is already public, but historically hard to explore.

VILiens is independently built and operated. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands or any of its offices.

Where the data comes from

The parcels shown on this map are drawn from the Real Property Tax Delinquency List published by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, which is a public record. That list is published periodically (typically annually) and reflects delinquencies as of its publication date — the source year and date are shown on the map.

To make the list explorable, we enrich it with other public records:

Parcel locations and boundaries from the territory's public GIS/parcel records, with a link from each parcel to its official record on usvi.mapgeo.io.
Mortgage recording history matched from public recorder records. Matching is done by parcel and owner name; each match is labeled with a confidence level because public records do not always join cleanly.
Sale history and mailing addresses from public property records.

Because the source list is periodic, a parcel shown here may have been paid, placed on a payment plan, or otherwise resolved since the list was published. The map is a snapshot of the official list as of its date, not a live record of who currently owes taxes.

VILiens is for general informational and research purposes only. Nothing on this site is legal, financial, tax, or investment advice, and nothing here is a legal determination that any person currently owes any debt. Data may contain errors, omissions, or matching mistakes, and may be out of date. Before relying on any information here — and especially before making any decision about a property or its owner — verify the current status directly with the Office of the Tax Collector, Office of the Lieutenant Governor (propertytax.vi.gov, 340-774-2991), or qualified local counsel.

Not a consumer reporting agency (FCRA notice)

VILiens is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq., and the information on this site does not constitute a "consumer report." You may not use any information from this site, in whole or in part, as a factor in determining any person's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing or tenancy, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. By using this site you agree not to use it for any such purpose.

Corrections, resolved parcels & removal requests

We want this map to be accurate, and we take requests from listed owners seriously. If you are the owner of a listed parcel (or their authorized representative):

Corrections. If a listing is wrong — the taxes have been paid, the parcel or owner is misidentified, or any enriched data (address, mortgage, sale history) is incorrect — email us with the parcel number and supporting documentation (for example, a payment receipt or current statement from the Tax Collector). We will review and correct or update the listing promptly, normally within five business days.
Removal. If you simply prefer that your parcel not appear on this site, email us with the parcel number and enough information to verify that you are the owner or their representative. We will honor verified removal requests. Please note that removal from VILiens does not remove a parcel from the government's official delinquency list — only the Tax Collector can do that.
Safety concerns. Requests involving personal safety (for example, domestic violence or stalking concerns) are prioritized and handled without further questions.

Removal and correction are always free. We will never charge anyone to correct or remove information about themselves. Removed parcels may remain in anonymous, aggregate statistics (such as island-level totals) so that summary figures stay accurate.

Privacy

If you create an account, we collect your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase; we never see your password) and the parcels you choose to save. We use this information only to operate the site — we do not sell or share it with third parties for marketing. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate site usage. To delete your account and associated data, email us from the address on the account and we will remove it.
